Regrettably, some breeders tend to overlook the potential health concerns that could arise from breeding dogs. Take Piglet for example, he is a delightful Chihuahua-Dachshund mix whose parents are both dappled. When two dogs of this coloration mate, their offspring have a 25% chance of being born as a “double dapple,” which often leads to partial or total blindness and deafness in the puppy. Unfortunately, Piglet was one of those puppies and ended up being completely deaf and blind. Despite his disabilities, Piglet continues to live his life to the fullest.

When Piglet was just a little puppy, his light pink fur earned him his unique name. Despite being an absolutely gorgeous and lovable pup, Piglet had some special requirements that called for extra care and affection from his family.

To understand more about Piglet’s story, we need to trace back to the beginning. He was one of 37 puppies discovered in a hoarding situation in Georgia before being transported to Connecticut. It was there that he crossed paths with veterinarian Melissa Shapiro, who initially planned to foster him.

However, it didn’t take long for Shapiro to realize that Piglet was meant to be a permanent member of her family. After just two months of fostering him, she fell head over heels in love with the little guy and knew that he belonged with her forever.

Shapiro’s furry family grew by one when she welcomed Piglet, despite already having six dogs. Although taking care of him was a challenge, it proved to be a rewarding experience. At the beginning, it felt like a full-time job as Piglet was clingy and vocal about his anxieties. He would become distressed whenever Shapiro was not around, making it impossible for her to leave him alone during the first month.

Piglet has finally found his permanent home and now enjoys a peaceful routine. He loves spending time playing with his siblings, going on walks, and even traveling for work with Shapiro. Despite his unique requirements, Piglet is determined to live a happy and fulfilling life as a dog.
