Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley praised Rihanna, saying, “May you continue to shine like a diamond.” Rihanna has received many accolades in her career, but on Monday night, she was named a National Hero by the Prime Minister of Barbados, her home country. The ceremony took place in Bridgetown, Rihanna’s hometown, and was part of the celebrations for Barbados becoming a republic. Rihanna graciously accepted her new title in a video shared by The Guardian.
In a recent ceremony, Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley named Robyn Rihanna Fenty as the designee for national hero of Barbados. Rihanna is only the second woman and the 12th person to receive this honor. The title of Right Honorable will now be used in front of her name. This recognition adds to Rihanna’s successful year, which includes becoming a billionaire and one of the most successful entertainers in the industry due to her music, Fenty beauty line, and fashion line. Although her last studio album, Anti, was released in 2016, she recently celebrated its five-year anniversary and teased new music on social media. In a video of the ceremony, Mottley praised Rihanna for bringing honor to her nation through her words and actions.
