A Russian wildlife park had an unexpected and heartwarming sight when a German Shepherd became the foster mother to two lion cubs. The cubs were born to Sirona, a lioness, who rejected them, leaving them emaciated and dehydrated. The staff at the White Lion Park decided to remove the cubs for their own protection and entrusted them to Sandra, a German Shepherd living in the park. Despite normally disliking cats, Sandra welcomed the cubs into her home and has been feeding them without issue. While this adorable family dynamic cannot last forever, the staff is optimistic that Sandra can continue to foster them for a while longer. This is a rare case of one animal species fostering another’s young, particularly wild animals, and it’s heartwarming to see how well the dog mother cared for the lion cubs.
