Beatrice Rosato had plans of living alone in her new home, and she realized she needed a companion to keep her company. Scrolling through Ente Nazionale Protezione Animali’s (ENPA) website, an animal rescue center situated near her home in Parma, Italy, she stumbled upon Cassandra, a gorgeous blind cat.
According to Beatrice, she stumbled upon Cassandra’s picture on the internet and was instantly drawn towards her. In November 2018, she finally met the beautiful ginger and white feline and felt an instant connection when Cassandra jumped on her knees. Beatrice discovered that Cassandra was only 15 months old and had spent most of her life roaming the streets before being rescued by ENPA. The poor kitty had a severe eye infection when she was found, but thankfully, she received the necessary medical attention.
Cassandra, a cute little kitty, was rescued from a terrible infection that had unfortunately damaged her eyes beyond repair. Due to the severity of the infection, Cassandra had to undergo surgery to remove her eyes, but she quickly recovered from the operation. It was not long before Beatrice fell in love with the adorable feline and decided to adopt her. On the very same day that they met, Beatrice took Cassandra home with her and gave her all the love and care she deserved.
The cute kitty in the photo, who goes by the name of Cassandra, quickly familiarized herself with her new abode. Beatrice, her owner, found taking care of Cassandra to be a breeze that she decided to adopt another blind feline named Omero from ENPA after only three months. Although they look alike, Beatrice clarifies that Cassandra and Omero are not related.
Cassandra and Omero are two blind cats who have been doing great a year after they were adopted by their owner, Beatrice. Although many people may assume that caring for blind cats is more difficult than caring for sighted cats, Beatrice has found that Cassandra and Omero don’t require much additional care or special treatment. They can use their litter box, eat, and navigate around the house easily, displaying a mental map inside their heads. Although Cassandra cannot see, she is still just like any other cat who loves to sleep and eat, and enjoys cuddling with both her owner and strangers. However, it’s important to note that blind cats should never be left unsupervised outside, as it poses significant risks to their safety. Beatrice always ensures that doors and windows in her home remain closed to prevent harm to her furry companions.
According to Beatrice, providing a secure and happy home for Cassandra and Omero doesn’t require much effort. In fact, her only advice is to show them love. She takes a minor precaution to ensure their safety but beyond that, her love is the key factor in creating a comfortable and content environment for her furry companions. This simple approach has proven to be effective for Beatrice and her pets.
Beatrice receives an abundance of love from her cat, Cassandra, and hopes that by sharing her experiences, others will be motivated to adopt blind cats. She believes that people should recognize the unique and affectionate qualities these felines possess.
In November 2018, Beatrice embarked on a journey to adopt a pet. Her intention was to give a home to an animal in need. However, she did not anticipate bringing home cats with special needs. Today, Beatrice is grateful to have two blind cats as part of her family. Omero and Cassandra have brought joy into her life, and Beatrice believes that special needs cats have the ability to lift one’s spirits. In her own words, “She really brightens my day.”
