Everyone knows that dogs are loyal pets, but this particular German shepherd has taken loyalty to a whole new level. In a recent incident in Des Moines, Iowa, a two-year-old German shepherd named Rex risked his life to protect his 16-year-old owner from burglars who broke into their home. With the burglars firing gunshots, Rex bravely stepped up to defend his owner.
Javier, terrified by the robbery, quickly took refuge in the bedroom closet with Rex, who was barking fiercely at the intruders. Despite Javier’s efforts to calm him down, Rex instinctively ran downstairs to attack the burglars. However, the snarling German shepherd wasn’t enough to scare off the robbers, who beat him up with whatever objects were at hand. Meanwhile, a scared Javier called 911 for help.
Susy Cadena, Javier’s aunt, reported that Rex returned to the upstairs floor, battered and bleeding from the beating, to check on his master who was still hiding in the closet.
After tracking down Rex’s hiding spot, the thieves made their way into the room where Javier and Rex were holed up. Although Rex had suffered a defeat earlier, he wasn’t about to let these intruders harm his beloved owner. As the burglars continued their rampage through the house, they eventually made their way upstairs and began rifling through all the bedrooms. When they discovered Javier’s nephew hiding in the closet, Rex summoned whatever energy he had left and charged at the robbers, determined to protect the young boy from harm.
Rex was hit by four bullets during a robbery and the assailants fled when they heard a siren. Javier escaped unharmed but Rex was bleeding profusely. They rushed him to Bluepearl veterinary partners where he received prompt medical care. It was determined that Rex required surgery to survive.
Susy acted quickly by creating a GoFundMe page to raise funds for Rex’s surgery, which is crucial for his survival. She believes that they can’t let Rex, the hero dog, go without fighting as hard as he did to protect her nephew until his last bit of strength. The family is thankful because they managed to collect more than $58,000, almost six times their original target of $10,000. Susy promised their donors that all the money would be used for Rex’s medical needs and recovery, and any surplus would be given to organizations that aim to safeguard animals. Javier is also grateful for Rex’s sacrifice because he thinks he wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for him. We hope for a quick recovery of this brave dog.
